About SideQuest

A game that hides inside your night out.

Why it exists

Most party games make everyone stop. Gather round. Look at one screen. It works, and it is fun, and it also replaces the party instead of improving it. The half hour after it ends is usually worse than the half hour before.

SideQuest is the opposite. Everyone gets a secret mission — get someone to teach you a dance move, make three people laugh, find out where two people first met — and then puts their phone away and goes to do it. You come back to the app twice. Once to say you did it. Once to confirm someone else did.

The whole design goal is that the app disappears into the night. That is why verification is one tap instead of a photo upload, why there is no chat, and why during live play there is at most one small banner and never an ad that cuts into a quest.

Where it works

Pre-drinks. Birthdays. Flat parties. Orientation week. Office socials that would otherwise be a room of people holding drinks. Anywhere three or more people are already together and could use a reason to talk to someone new.

Who makes it

One person, in Singapore, in the evenings. No company, no funding, no team — a side project that got far enough to be worth putting online.

It is in beta, and that is an honest label rather than a marketing one. Things will be rough in places. The fastest way for that to change is people telling us which places.

How it works, technically

It is a web page. No download, no app store, no account. You get a five-character room code, everyone else scans a QR or types the code, and that is the whole setup. Any modern phone browser will run it. It is free, and there is currently nothing to buy.

We collect almost nothing: a display name you invent, an emoji, and a score. No email addresses, no photos, no location. The privacy policy lists exactly what is stored and for how long, and it is short because there is not much to list.

What's coming

A second product, YourSideQuest, is in design — a few small quests each morning for one person instead of a room full of them, with a private photo journal of the ones you finish. It is on the home page marked Coming Soon, which is exactly how far along it is.

Get in touch

Email hello.yoursidequest@gmail.com. It goes straight to the person who built it. Worth writing about:

  • Something broke at your party. The single most useful email you can send. Include the room code and roughly what happened.
  • A quest that fell flat — or one you invented that landed. Genuinely wanted. The quest packs are written by hand and good suggestions get added.
  • Running an event — an office social, orientation week, a wedding — and you want custom quests written for it.
  • Privacy requests. Send the room code and the name you used and we will delete the record.
  • Press, or anything else.

One person answering, so give it a day or two.

Not played yet? Two minutes to set up, two people minimum, and nobody has to download anything.
